Board Withholds Parade Permit Pending Safety Plan
Select Board · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Buckland Select Board withholds festival parade permit pending a safety plan. The board declined to sign off on the town's Moonlight Magic Festival parade permit until police and fire officials produce a joint crowd-safety plan, after organizers described a crush last year that pushed a presenter into a fire truck. "I was getting pushed towards the fire truck, and I was only a couple of inches away from it," the festival's cultural district manager, Kate, told the board.
Separately, the board approved a Kubota 4020 tractor purchase topping $65,000 for the highway department using Chapter 90 state funds, and signed a long-negotiated right-of-way agreement with Spectrum Northeast LLC. Town Administrator Pam told the board a proposed regional EMS partnership could cost Buckland "a couple hundred thousand dollars or more per year," with no construction estimate yet for a shared ambulance facility.
