Select Board Approves New Fire Chief Contract
Select Board · Meeting of September 29, 2026
Northfield Select Board approves new fire chief pay deal, advances plan to abandon a dead-end road. The board voted 4-1, with Clerk Shane Duclos abstaining, to approve Fire Chief Michael's contract through June 30, 2027, consolidating stipends into a $12,000 raise that Town Administrator Andrea Llamas said tracks closely with prior pay. Members also directed Highway Superintendent Tom to scope out ending vehicle maintenance on an impassable stretch of Old Wendell Road, estimating drainage and paving work at "close to half a million dollars each end." The board approved a $425,266.69 vendor warrant including a new police cruiser and EMS ambulance, reviewed a court order upholding its nuisance-dog finding against Finicky Farm LLC, and previewed a 13-article fall Town Meeting warrant, due to the board by Oct. 27, that includes transferring small town-owned parcels and a roughly seven-acre buildable lot into Select Board custody.
