Whately CPC Sends $140,142 in Projects to Town Meeting Warrant

WHATELY — April 8, 2026 — Whately's Community Preservation Committee unanimously approved $140,142 in spending requests for the June 2 Annual Town Meeting. The committee voted to send three projects to the Select Board for warrant placement: a $120,292.51 overhaul of the elementary school playground on Long Plain Road, drawing $23,866 from the open space fund and $96,426.51 from the CPC fund balance; an $8,100 share of the Kalonka Agricultural Preservation Restriction at 6 State Road, covering the 40 percent of the parcel within Whately; and an $11,750 share of the Oshesky APR at 261 River Road, equal to 5 percent of a $235,000 total. Member Laura recused herself from both APR votes, citing a pending ethics review tied to her USDA Farm Service Agency employment. The committee also noted that Berkshire Design Group will conduct a feasibility study of affordable housing potential at the DeMayo property on Routes 5 and 10, funded by roughly $120,000 in the CPA housing trust.
