Greenfield sustainability panel says city has met three of six benchmarks for state climate leader status. Director of Energy and Sustainability Carol Collins told the Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee the city has a green-community standing, an 80 percent emissions-cut commitment by 2050, and a new zero-emission vehicle policy covering its 106-vehicle fleet, but still needs a designated climate committee, an approved decarbonization roadmap, and a specialized stretch energy code. Designation would raise the city's building decarbonization grant cap to $1 million from $500,000, backed by a roughly $60 million statewide pool.

"Carol summed it up, and if it feels like there's not a clear answer, it's because there is not a clear answer," said City Council Designee Max Webb. Separately, members said three completed right-to-farm signs remain uninstalled because the Department of Public Works is understaffed, and the committee still has no DPW representative despite repeated outreach.
