The Shutesbury Buildings Committee voted to hire an engineer for $1,500 to inspect the town's salt and sand shed. Chair Frank McGinn's panel flagged separated roof-truss plates and bowed plywood on the shed's west wall as the chief concerns driving the review.
Buildings Committee sought engineer quotes on salt shed repairs ahead of a Sept. 29 funding deadline. Members told colleagues that a structural engineer had offered a rough range of $2,500 to $5,000 and that another engineer, Ryan Hellig of Greenfield, might also bid.
