School finance panel flags possible internet double billing

Finance Committee · Meeting of August 3, 2026

Greenfield's school finance subcommittee flags a possible double payment for internet service between G-SET and Comcast. Member Childs chaired the roll-call-only session, joined by Member Goodwin and Member Webb, who unanimously approved July 28 minutes 3-0. One member warned the arrangement looks like "taxpayers getting hit twice" if the city's roughly ten-year Comcast cable franchise, now being renegotiated, should already cover internet access.

Members also revisited recurring elevator flooding at Federal Street School, now reportedly joined by flooding in the Greenfield High School auditorium, and reviewed health-office Amazon orders of about $1,000 at Four Corners School and $488 at Federal Street. A pre-K supply increase was traced largely to the PRISM literacy grant, per Assistant Superintendent Stephen Sullivan. The subcommittee standardized its schedule to Mondays at 11:30 a.m., adjourned 3-0 at 10:37 a.m.
