Finance Committee · Meeting of June 22, 2026

Deerfield Finance Committee approves $43,700 in end-of-year transfers and hears road funding data. The committee voted unanimously on five budget transfers at its June 22 meeting, the largest being a $22,000 reserve fund draw to cover utility overruns at the newly opened Tilton Library, an all-electric building whose electricity and telephone costs exceeded projections after a planned solar installation did not occur in FY26. The committee debated whether to approve the full $25,000 requested, with one member arguing that the committee meets again July 13 and "could technically do an additional transfer if necessary," before settling on $22,000.

Earlier in the meeting, Department of Public Works Director Matt presented digital road management data showing Deerfield's overall pavement condition index at 72.3 out of 100, warning that at the town's baseline Chapter 90 allotment of $380,000 per year the score would fall roughly two points annually, and that $600,000 per year is needed simply to hold steady. Finance Committee Chair Julie Chalfant raised the possibility of a dedicated road infrastructure stabilization fund drawing on annual free cash as an alternative to a Proposition 2½ override.
