Greenfield School Policy Panel Sets Fall Deadlines on Vaping, Student Voice Policies

School Committee · Meeting of July 2, 2026

Greenfield school policy subcommittee charts fall roadmap on vaping, student voice, and academic integrity. The three-member Policy and School Committee Handbook Subcommittee, chaired by Elizabeth DeNeve and joined by members Ann Childs and Jeffrey Deitman, voted unanimously at its July 2 virtual meeting to approve the June 8 minutes and a new resolution-style PDF template for the School Committee handbook. The panel then assigned research tasks aimed at bringing recommendations on three policies to the full School Committee by November: Childs will prepare a comparative vaping policy spreadsheet for the August 24 meeting; Deitman will research policy JIB, which governs student advisory councils and could allow a student to sit as a non-voting member at School Committee meetings as early as fall 2026; and DeNeve will consult legal counsel on whether an academic integrity policy belongs in the district policy manual.

Superintendent Carol Kruiser flagged a gap in the existing student retention policy, IKE, saying she wants to add a formal right of appeal to the superintendent — "technically I don't have the power to if I go by the policy" — and DeNeve said she will ask the full committee to authorize a review of that policy at its next meeting.
