Erving School Committee Adopts New Improvement Plan

School Committee · Meeting of October 27, 2026

Erving School Committee adopted a new School Improvement Plan after Principal Beth Gannon reported the school's best MCAS performance since 2014. The school earned 84 percent of possible state accountability points for 2026, up from 36 percent the prior year, with chronic absenteeism down from 19.4 percent to 14.1 percent. Math proficiency districtwide rose from 23 percent to 56 percent of students meeting or exceeding standards.

Superintendent Shannon White-Cleveland warned of rising phishing attempts after incidents disrupted school systems in East Hampton and Springfield, saying "most cybersecurity hacks happen because somebody opened something." The Director of Finance and Operations reported Erving's share of the Union 28 budget fell from 24.37 percent to 23.97 percent. Member Mark Blatchley proposed cutting policy adoption from two readings to one, a change members informally supported but did not formally vote on, pending guidance from their state association representative.
