DOER Briefs Deerfield on New School Energy Grants
Deerfield energy panel maps a two-grant path for its Frontier school project.
Conservation · Meeting of August 20, 2026
Deerfield energy panel maps a two-grant path for its Frontier school project. DOER regional coordinator Zachary Jenkins told the Energy Conservation Committee that Deerfield was one of 14 western Massachusetts towns funded at nearly 100 percent in the latest Green Communities round, financing work at Frontier Regional School through September 2028. Members explored a separate Regional School District Decarbonization grant, with the next round closing September 4, and learned FRCOG has $1,500 for grant help and $3,000 for annual reporting.
Jenkins warned Deerfield's repeated stretch-code defeats hurt its odds for decarbonization roadmap funding: "You're less likely to get that decarb roadmap funding." The committee agreed to spend its existing $1,000 allocation on a flyer for the October 6 technical school vote and tabled member Greg Franceschi's e-bike lane proposal to October 1.
