Deerfield Appoints Timothy Drumgoole as New South County EMS Chief

Deerfield's Select Board unanimously appointed Timothy Drumgoole as the next chief of South County EMS and authorized $1,173,946.97 in sewer bills at its June 10 joint meeting with the Board of Health and Sewer Commissioners. The board approved Drumgoole's employment contract and separately voted to appoint him effective July 6, 2026, with Zach Battistone named interim chief from June 22 through July 5 to bridge the gap. Members tabled a draft letter notifying partner towns Sunderland and Whately of a possible exit from the South County Senior Center intermunicipal agreement, citing new developments since the prior meeting.

The board also voted to accept temporary construction easements from Great River Hydro for the Stillwater Bridge replacement — a $20-plus million MassDOT project now advertised for bid — and accepted the resignations of South County EMS Board of Oversight member Matt Russo and Finance Committee member Mark T. Brennan Jr., who is leaving to serve as town moderator. A resident living half a mile from Treehouse Brewing told the board that walls in the home were vibrating during three consecutive summer concerts and that the noise was "totally unacceptable," while the board took no formal action and said it would continue monitoring.
