Board of Health · Meeting of September 30, 2026
Greenfield Board of Health revokes a tobacco retailer's license over banned flavored wraps, its fourth violation in two years. Members Ellis Taylor and Darius Greenbacher voted to pull Green Mart's tobacco sales license after inspectors found flavored hemp wraps hidden behind the counter during a September 1 kratom-ban sweep, giving the store 30 days to sell off legal stock and imposing a $5,000 fine. Meredith O'Leary of the Pioneer Valley Tobacco Coalition told the board the state's flavor ban has been in place "for six years, at least," layered atop prior sales-to-minors citations from 2024 and 2025.
Separately, Health Director Michael Theroux opened a housing code hearing for a Seventh Street duplex with a red-tagged oil tank, exposed asbestos pipe wrap and overloaded wiring, telling the new owner the oil tank and electrical work are the priorities "before the winter sets in," with a follow-up due at the board's October 28 meeting.
