Deerfield Select Board Unanimously Names Timothy Drumgoole as South County EMS Chief

DEERFIELD — June 10, 2026 — Deerfield Select Board names a new South County EMS chief and clears the way for a $20 million bridge project at a wide-ranging June 10 meeting. The board voted 3-0 to approve an employment agreement with Timothy Drumgoole as chief of South County EMS, effective July 6, 2026, and separately appointed Zach Battistone as interim chief from June 22 through July 6. Also voting 3-0, the board acting as Sewer Commissioners authorized bills to 973 accounts totaling $1,173,946.97 for the fiscal year 2026 second sewer commitment. On infrastructure, Town Administrator Christopher Dunne reported that MassDOT has put the $20-million-plus Stillwater Bridge replacement out to bid, and the board unanimously accepted temporary construction easements from Great River Hydro needed to proceed. The board tabled a draft letter notifying the towns of Sunderland and Whately that Deerfield is contemplating exiting the South County Senior Center intermunicipal agreement, citing new developments, with a decisive answer promised at the next meeting. Noise complaints from Treehouse Brewing's outdoor concert series drew comment from a resident a half mile from the venue who said bass vibrations left her unable to hear television inside her home with windows shut — a level of disruption the board acknowledged while taking no formal action.
