Conservation Board Votes to Seek CPA Funds Again

Conservation Board · Meeting of September 8, 2026

Greenfield Conservation Commission votes to seek more CPA money for its land fund. Members unanimously backed resubmitting a Community Preservation Act pre-application for fiscal year 2027, with roughly $472,264 in town CPA funds available this cycle, after receiving $20,000 last year toward the commission's Conservation Fund. The likely use: removing a derelict cabin to unlock an 11-acre land donation, estimated at "between $5,000 to $8,000" by a contractor.

Chairperson Elizabeth Garofalo's board also heard that a separate Griswold Conservation Area appropriation, worth roughly $290, requires a public notice costing "somewhere around like $150 to $200," and is researching whether a revolving-fund model could let the commission bypass full City Council appropriation for small expenses. Members also discussed letting a neighbor's mowing encroachment on an Aldi-site wetland mitigation area be resolved with boundary boulders instead of a strict plant-survival count.
