Other Committee · Meeting of October 7, 2026
Greenfield's Board of Assessors approved a batch of motor vehicle excise abatements while confirming refund processing will shift from twice a month to once a month. Members Chuck Green, Jim Ambersole and Jim Geisman heard that the change, requested by the town's accounting and treasurer's departments, will add roughly 30 days to some constituents' wait for checks, though staff said the office remains within its three-month statutory deadline. Staff also disclosed that a cross-department review found Greenfield's property address records contain errors "for 14 years" in some cases, complicating a planned migration to the OpenGov software platform.
"Everybody's got their own database and everybody's got holes in their own database," staff told the board. Separately, the board discussed outsourcing income-and-expense data entry to vendor Patriot Properties at no added cost and began planning commercial-property education sessions, tentatively for January, after Green cautioned against overloading staff during the ongoing tax classification season.
