Whately Walking Tour Group Sets July Deadline for Historic Site Scripts

WHATELY — June 8, 2026 — Whately committee advances plans for a twelve-stop audio walking tour of the town center. The group, working toward what members described as a 250-year celebration, reached consensus on a list of up to twelve historic properties selected by member vote, with the Center School identified as a marginal candidate dependent on the quality of available source material. A member identified as Ashley volunteered to write first-draft scripts for all stops in a shared Google Doc by the end of June, with another member, Mary, slated to edit; the committee agreed to meet on July 13 to review content. The tour, to be hosted on SoundCloud with one image per audio stop, covers a one-mile route between the town cemetery and a church, a distance the group estimated at roughly twenty minutes of walking time, leaving a target of twenty to twenty-five minutes for audio content across all stops. Members discussed adding a supplementary landing page — modeled on a prior Hidden History project — to display additional photographs and serve listeners who cannot walk the route in person.
