Whately Giving Garden Committee names first treasurer, plans April seed workshop
Other Committee · Meeting of February 26, 2026
Whately's Giving Garden Committee appointed its first treasurer and finalized an April 12 seed-starting workshop capped at 16 participants. Member Terry was voted treasurer unanimously at the February 26 Zoom meeting to oversee donations after conversations with the fire chief and a town official identified as Pete indicated the volunteer committee may accept contributions; a formal inquiry to the state Ethics Commission remains pending. The seed workshop will be held at 1 p.m. in the Whately library, with organic seed packets assigned to individual members covering tomatoes, cucumbers, kale, zucchini, peppers, marigolds, sunflowers, and loofah, with soil donations to be sought from Sugarloaf Nurseries.
The committee also advanced a proposal from Doug Caldwell to donate lumber for up to 10 raised garden beds for residents, agreeing to offer educational support but not physical upkeep. The outdoor giving garden season was set to open May 16, with distribution hours of 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at the transfer station.
