Whately's Community Preservation Committee unanimously advanced three projects to an April 8 public hearing, setting the stage for a June town meeting vote. The committee cleared the Olszewski and Glonka Agricultural Preservation Restriction applications — the Glonka parcel spans the Whately-Hatfield town line, with Whately's 40 percent share valued at $8,100 — and a Whately Elementary School PTO playground request of up to $120,292.51, which covers equipment and materials only after JDR Builders volunteered to donate installation supervision and concrete, a contribution estimated at more than $13,000. PTO representative Colette told the committee fundraising had begun, with local businesses indicating donations of $500 to $1,000 each and a spring fundraiser potentially adding more, but the full CPA request remains unchanged.

The committee also set a fiscal year 2027 CPA revenue estimate of $228,000 and voted to add $2,200 to each of the three major CPA buckets to correct a roughly $22,000 underestimate from fiscal year 2025, bringing each bucket to $25,000; the committee's total fund balance is approaching $1 million, its highest level ever.
