NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Select Board reviewed preliminary financing for a roughly $9.5 million EMS building ahead of a November 19 Town Meeting vote. Construction costs came in at $830.16 per square foot, below the roughly $1,000-per-square-foot estimate project managers had anticipated. Officials said the town would reallocate $200,000 of its existing $500,000 annual building-fund allocation toward debt service, estimated at $636,500 over 30 years, leaving $300,000 for the separate Fire Department project.
The board also reviewed free cash figures certified by the state, with the Sewer enterprise fund at $470,684 and Ambulance/EMS at $359,027. In other business, the board appointed Brian Godin as a per diem EMT at $28 per hour and voted unanimously to sell a surplus 2017 Freightliner highway truck to the Town of Warwick for $25,000. "I think it's much smaller than I was concerned it was going to come back," one member said of the project cost.
