Opioid commission tables grant applications, plans focus groups

Greenfield's Opioid Abuse and Prevention Commission tabled a planned grant application process, opting instead to first revisit a four-year-old community needs survey that never led to funded projects. Member Anna said the community "felt traumatized" after being surveyed once with no follow-through, and member Pedro said residents are "pretty probably frustrated" that settlement money still hasn't reached the initiatives they requested. The commission can grant individuals up to $10,000 under Chapter 77 of the Acts of 2023 without standard city procurement, and its account carries standing annual lines of $55,000 for a burial fund and $15,000 for member stipends.

Members floated quarterly focus groups starting in July and a possible survey timed to September's Recovery Month. The board also corrected its December 15 minutes to mark member Abby Godfrey present rather than absent and welcomed new member Jeffrey Jen at his first meeting.
