Greenfield Zoning Board of Appeals continues cannabis facility hearing amid unresolved permit dispute. The board voted unanimously, 5-0, at its July 9 meeting to push the special permit hearing for Greenerside Holdings, LLC's proposed indoor marijuana cultivation facility at 180 Laurel Street to August 20, after attorney Quinn Heath of Cambridge firm Cable, Fleischer and Sotheby told the board the applicant needed time to determine whether a prior special permit for the site — believed to have lapsed — could be extended under a good cause or reliance theory rather than proceeding under the new application. Heath said the company has been in "active conversations" with Planning Director Ella Wise on the question.

A member of the public also warned the board that open, water-filled excavation holes on the Laurel Street property pose a drowning risk to children in the area, a concern he said had been raised with the applicant previously. The board approved the June 11 meeting minutes 4-0, with member Mark Maloni abstaining.
