Greenfield Ways and Means Backs $243,330 in Community Preservation Grants

Greenfield Ways and Means Committee unanimously recommends $243,330 in Community Preservation Act funding across eight projects ahead of a full City Council vote. The committee, chaired by Councilor Bottomley and meeting June 16 with four of five members present, reviewed each project with the chair of the Community Preservation Committee before voting to recommend Order 26-122 to the full Council. Grants include $60,000 for facade restoration of the former Wilson's Building by the Franklin Community Cooperative, $50,000 in pre-development funding for a 32-unit affordable housing project at 176 Main Street by Rural Development, Inc., $30,000 to the City Clerk for historic document digitization equipment, $30,000 to the Greenfield Housing Authority for a Section 8 security deposit and rental assistance fund, and smaller amounts for industrial heritage painting preservation, Conservation Commission land acquisition response, Miller's Meadow recreational improvements, and Beacon Field equipment.

The committee also confirmed its earlier unanimous recommendation of the mayor's FY 2027 operating budget, with one open question — whether a $6,000 Police Department building maintenance line should be transferred to central maintenance — flagged for resolution before the June 17 Council meeting.
