Greenfield sustainability panel plans outreach to three cities on Main Street redesign

Other Committee · Meeting of May 28, 2026

Greenfield's sustainability committee assigns members to contact three peer cities ahead of Main Street redesign. The Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee, meeting May 28 in hybrid format under Vice Chair George Talumsas, voted unanimously to approve April minutes and by an 8-1 margin to table revisions to its governing ordinance, then spent the bulk of the session planning outreach to Keene, N.H., Northampton, and Easthampton — communities that have completed or are undergoing main street redesigns. Chair Hannah Rekshaven was assigned Keene, member at large Graham Marinas took Easthampton, and member at large Nancy Hazard took Northampton, with each asked to contact local business associations first.

Community and economic development director Amy Kaylane, speaking partly in her capacity with the Greenfield Business Association, said she is already researching a text-alert platform so business owners can be notified instantly when specific blocks of Main Street are closed. The committee also heard that Greenfield's resubmitted One-Stop state grant application for an Economic Development chapter update no longer includes a Deerfield Street corridor plan, and that the city remains on track to seek Climate Leader Community designation by the December 2026 state deadline.
