Greenfield sustainability panel advances master plan chapters, eyes $1 million in state climate funding. The Sustainable Greenfield Implementation Committee, meeting April 23, approved minutes from three prior sessions and heard a report from Planning Board Representative and Vice Chair George Solumsas that two updated master plan chapters received a positive reception at a recent city council presentation. Community and Economic Development Director Amy Kaling outlined a mayoral request for the committee to research how other municipalities have managed small-business impacts during downtown construction, identifying 11 potential peer communities, with the committee agreeing to devote agenda time at its May 28 meeting to developing research questions.

Member at large Nancy Hazard pressed for urgency on the city's climate leader community designation, warning that roughly $50 million in state funding is available to qualifying towns and that 35 Massachusetts communities have already secured the designation, giving each access to $1 million. A May 19 community event co-hosted with the Open Space Task Force at the John Zahn will feature station-based public engagement on conservation priority mapping, a pollinator plan, and trails, preceded by a 15-minute master plan chapter overview.
