Greenfield Public Safety Commission declares pit bull mix dangerous in city's first dog hearing. The commission voted unanimously June 3 to designate a dog named Poopa, a possible pit bull mix owned by Megan O'Loughlin of 136 Conway Street, as a dangerous dog under MGL Chapter 140, Section 157, imposing six restrictions including a two-week deadline to vaccinate and license the animal, a 15-day window to obtain a muzzle, a three-week deadline to book a neutering appointment, and a 60-day window to complete the procedure. Police Chief Todd Dodge, presenting more than a dozen calls to the address dating to April 2024, told the commission "various public safety agencies, including ambulances, are not going to go in the house" because of the dog's aggression toward first responders.

Deputy Sheriff Kyle Dragan of the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the city's regional animal control officer, testified to at least one confirmed human bite — to Officer Brent Griffin in September 2025 — and an October 2025 off-leash attack on a man walking three dogs who was treated at an emergency room. Dragan stated that if the dog were ever surrendered or seized, the regional shelter would deem it unadoptable regardless of the commission's classification. The owner, who was served notice June 1, did not appear; she has 10 days to appeal to a clerk magistrate.
