Greenfield Parking Panel Endorses Federal Street No-Parking Rule for Recycling Trucks

Greenfield's parking committee endorsed a no-parking restriction on Federal Street to make way for the city's new automated recycling trucks and heard troubling data about the Olive Street garage. The committee voted unanimously to prohibit parking from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 3 p.m.

Thursday at two Federal Street locations, a change proposed by Communications Director Jonathan Weber to allow wheeled recycling carts to sit in the roadway for mechanical-arm pickup. Assistant Treasurer-Collector Jen Silva reported that the city has issued 354 monthly garage permits against only 270 available spaces, and that all paid parking has generated $1.196 million since fiscal year 2023, with fiscal year 2026 on pace to set a monthly revenue record at $12,128. Members also heard a safety complaint from John Lowe of Greenfield Auto Specialists, who described a dangerous blind driveway on state-highway High Street and asked for signage or enforcement help, prompting the committee to consult with police and DPW.
