Assessors approve excise abatements, enter executive session
Other Committee · Meeting of April 1, 2026
Greenfield assessors approve excise abatements, weigh perjury enforcement on tax filings. The Board of Assessors, with members Chuck Green, Jim Geist and Jeremy Ebersole present, unanimously approved motor vehicle excise abatements dated March 19 to April 1 and discussed how to enforce accuracy on income and expense forms property owners file for income-producing real estate. Staff said state law "requires testimony under oath" and written documentation, including possible CPA certification, but "there is no perjury enforcement" beyond referring bad-faith filers to the attorney general.
The board confirmed the state Division of Local Services approved its revaluation plan through the DLS Gateway system, though contract negotiations over a possible shift in the assessment cycle have "hit a bump." The board set its next public educational outreach session for Monday, June 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the library, then voted unanimously to enter executive session to review pending tax abatement, personal exemption and charitable-property exemption applications.
