Two Community Hikes Planned for Shutesbury This Sunday

COMMUNITY -- The Shutesbury Conservation Commission's Recreation Committee is hosting a hike this Sunday at 1 p.m. at Houston Gage off Sand Hill Road. Commission members described it as a loop trail and noted that a hike at the same location last fall drew a sunny day and a good turnout. Separately, commission members noted that a sign posted in front of the school advertises a "community hike" this Sunday at Brightwater Bog, organized by the school's PTO; the exact time was not specified in commission discussion. Commission members acknowledged some confusion over the two events happening the same day but said either option "sounds great," and noted the PTO hike may appeal to families with younger children.

In other commission business, members discussed ongoing trail work at the Southbrook property, where a contractor is making progress on construction. Commission members said they expect to organize a group effort later this fall or in the spring to re-blaze the trail once that work wraps up, tentatively by early summer next year.
