Shutesbury Library Trustees Adopt Revised Conduct and Meeting Room Policies

Shutesbury Library Trustees unanimously adopted two updated policies governing conduct and meeting room use at the new library building. The Board of Library Trustees voted to rename its patron behavior policy the "library conduct policy," extending its scope explicitly to staff and volunteers as well as patrons, and added a new formal definition of hate speech drawn from the American Library Association, to be appended as a footnote with citation. The meeting room policy was amended to add a small study room reservation system — allowing bookings of up to two hours, up to three months in advance — and to extend the advance-application window for the community meeting room from seven days to ten.

Library Director Megan reported that punch-list work on the recently opened building is ongoing, with ADA-compliant door hardware being replaced on three interior doors and an electrician scheduled to address lighting issues. The board set its next meeting for March 30.
