Greenfield School Subcommittee Questions $51,000 HVAC Contract, Plans Rebid

Finance Committee · Meeting of May 5, 2026

Greenfield school budget subcommittee scrutinizes $51,000 HVAC contract and plans rebid. The Budget, Finance and Warrants Subcommittee met May 5 to review April warrants, with member Goodwin leading questions about a roughly $51,000 annual preventive-maintenance contract with MCOR covering all school buildings — including approximately $25,000 attributable to the new high school alone. Facilities staff said the MCOR contract, originally bid through the city's procurement office three to four years ago, needs to go back out to bid, and a competing quote has been requested from B&G Mechanical; staff added, "that's probably where they'll land" at roughly $55,000 for the next cycle.

The subcommittee also reviewed Snow and Sons grounds-maintenance costs, gym floor refinishing ($3,000 to $4,500 per school annually), Federal Street School water-damage insurance claims, and field trip fund balances ranging from $1,075 at AIR School to $4,851.36 at the middle school. The subcommittee unanimously agreed to meet at 11:30 a.m. on May 18 to prepare for a likely City Council budget presentation on May 19.
