Greenfield delays AI policy pending advisory group
School Board · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Greenfield School Committee postpones AI policy, approves $600 D.C. trip and stadium-light repairs. Chair Stacy Sexton's board voted unanimously to delay a revised artificial-intelligence policy until a new AI Advisory Work Group, which had drawn 28 survey responses, reports back. Vice Chair Childs said a full LED conversion of the athletic field's roughly 350-light system would run about $500,000, with interim bulb and wiring repairs now realistically pegged at "closer to $30,000 to $50,000." The committee approved an eighth-grade Washington, D.C., trip at roughly $600 per student with one abstention, advanced a director of health and wellness job description, and unanimously approved first readings of four updated tobacco and vaping policies.
Enrollment stands at 1,278 students, down from prior years. Two parents used public comment to criticize elementary band cuts and uneven class sizes tied to last year's redistricting.
