Greenfield Council Votes to Pause Data Centers
Town Board · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Greenfield bans data centers for a year, makes Indigenous Peoples Day official. The City Council voted 12-0 Wednesday to impose a 365-day moratorium on new data centers, with Councilor Bolduc leading months of research after learning a private equity firm was eyeing First Light Power's hydro assets across the river. Councilor Gordon called data centers "a total economic bubble that is only meant to benefit a few billionaires." The council separately adopted a resolution recognizing the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples Day, directing copies to the state delegation to support pending legislation.
Councilors approved $667,286 in capital borrowing for public safety and water infrastructure and $25,000 for a building inspections vehicle, but tabled a $110,000 traffic-signal upgrade, 5-3, pending more information on camera-software costs. Councilor Williams flagged that a 25-year cafeteria worker earns just $27,946 a year.
