Deerfield Select Board Approves $1 Million MassWorks Grant for Elm Street Rebuild

DEERFIELD — February 4, 2026 — Deerfield Select Board approves $1 million MassWorks grant and companion engineering contract for Elm Street roadway project. The board, meeting jointly as the Board of Health and Sewer Commissioners on February 4, unanimously accepted the state Small Town Road Improvement Fund award for the Elm Street Roadway Improvements Project and authorized Town Administrator Matthew Morris to execute the agreement. Town Planner Alex said the grant builds on roughly $500,000 in prior Complete Streets funding and approximately $87,000 in Chapter 90 engineering expenditures already paid to MassDOT-qualified firm Tye and Bond, and that public input sessions would follow once survey work is complete. The board also approved a $103,000 Tye and Bond contract amendment for final design, bid administration, and construction-phase services, funded from within the grant. In other action, the board approved a $33,371 fiscal year 2027 landfill monitoring contract with Atlas Technical Consultants — described as roughly half the cost of prior contracts — and voted to transfer a 2015 Ford Interceptor Utility cruiser at no cost to the Warwick Police Department on the recommendation of Chief John Pachurik Jr., completing the department's transition to an all-hybrid marked fleet.
