Conway Annual Town Meeting Approves $7.57 Million Budget and $850,000 Fire Truck

CONWAY — June 6, 2026 — Conway voters approved a $7.57 million municipal and school budget and a string of capital equipment purchases at the June 6 Annual Town Meeting. Finance Committee Chair Alan Singer reported certified free cash of $894,273 and said the day's transfers would leave the town at approximately $286,000 in free cash — roughly 3 percent of the operating budget, at the floor of the state's recommended range. Major capital items included an $850,000 pumper fire truck funded primarily through a $700,000 USDA earmark grant, a $230,000 bucket loader, and a $100,000 highway truck replacement, all drawn from free cash. The closest vote of the day came on Article 24, a Planning Board zoning article redefining "dwelling unit" to exclude tents, yurts, and RVs — it passed 46-30 after a proposed amendment to strike language requiring structures to be "permanently affixed to a foundation in the ground" failed 31-44. Article 25, a separate Planning Board zoning article, was withdrawn before deliberation at the board's own request, with Planning Board Vice Chair Jeff Lacey indicating the article needed further development.
